Fudge Pie {family traditions} and a GIVEAWAY!

------------------------------------This contest is now closed--------------------------------------

I was contacted by Macy's to participate in their mBlog Recipe Showcase. They have asked me to share what our family's favorite holiday recipes are and if there are any stories to go along with those recipes.  Additionally, Macy’s is inviting you guys to submit your favorite holiday recipes at their Facebook page for a chance to win a dinner with a renowned Macy’s Culinary Council chef, including Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, Cat Cora or Todd English! Macy's is also sponsoring a giveaway for one of my readers! You could win your choice of one of three Martha Stewart professional cookware pieces. a ceramic casserole dish, hard anodized fry pans (set of 3), or a stainless steel 15" roaster with roasting rack! (If any of these products become unavailable Macy's is happy to offer another choice of Martha Stewart Professional Cookware (up to $40 in value). What's not to love about this!? So if you're interested in submitting your own family recipe, head on over to Macy's facebook page and post it, and if you want to enter my giveaway all you have to do is comment below answering the following question:

What is your favorite food to eat during the holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas)?

Don't worry if your comment doesn't show up immediately, I am moderating the comments, so they will show up later. Make sure you leave a way for me to contact you if you enter. This contest is open until Tuesday, November 22nd at NOON so don't be late! This contest is limited to people who live in the United States. Now, for my recipe!

Do you have recipes that you make and they just take you back to certain times? Well when I was asked to share a recipe that was a favorite family tradition I immediately thought of two things. One, sausage balls, oh it wouldn't be Christmas morning without sausage balls and then I thought of fudge pie. Now, I don't make this fudge pie all that often, but if I'm ever at home around Thanksgiving or Christmas, you can be sure that this pie will be there.

When I asked my dad where he got this recipe from, he told me he's had it since he was in seventh grade. I said, "Seventh grade? Who did you get it from?" He then went on to tell me that he took a home ec class in seventh grade, you know, so he could meet some girls, and he learned how to cook and sew. He said he was the only boy in the whole class, so I guess his goal to meet girls was met! haha This recipe was his teacher's recipe for fudge pie. I sure am glad that she shared this easy and delicious recipe with my dad all those years ago! (Don't worry dad, I won't tell how many years ago that actually was.) I will tell you that this pie is not good warm, serve it and store it at room temperature and your belly will thank you!

  1. My favorite is definitely pumpkin pie! I can eat an entire pie by myself. I put sweet potato in my pumpkin pie...so technically...my favorite is pumpkin sweet potato pie! It's delish!

  4. I can't participate in your give away; no Macys here, but I have to comment on this pie; I can just imagine the taste and how my sons would love this.
I have to say every time I cook it reminds me of a person or a special occasion.
Cooking and blogging a good combination.

  8. My mother used to bake a whole ham iced with a horshradish/cream cheese mixture. She would cut flower petals out of whole pimiento and use green onions as stems and leaves. It was almost too pretty to eat.

  13. Easily it has to be the cranberry sauce. I've loved it since I was a kid. First it was just canned sauce in the "cranberry log" form, eventually I've moved on to enjoying whole berry sauce. Next, I want to learn to cook it myself!

  16. My favorite is the candies that only appear at the holidays. They may be exactly the same as what's available all year-round, but give me cute packaging and/or seasonal colors and I can't resist!

  17. I only celebrated Christmas once I married my husband - but I LOVE Hanukkah! I make latkes at least 5 or 6 times during December, and now my husband's family is so hooked that they request them at Christmas dinner!

  20. My favorite is my cranberry salad. You start with chopped fresh cranberries, apples, organges, pineapple and pecans, then add sugar, black cherry or strawberry jello and boiling water then mix and chill for a few hours. The tart of the cranberries combined with the sweet taste and crunchy texture are delicious and mouth watering!
