Earth Day Gardening

Well it's Earth Day! I've been planning on planting our fruits and vegetables on this day for a few weeks with the boys. My hubby built us a raised garden bed a couple of weeks ago, and filled it with what looks to be pretty good soil from the yard. We decided to only plant half of our plants today, because the tomatoes, bell peppers, and broccoli are still small and don't have big leaves like the other ones we planted. It is supposed to rain a lot this weekend and I didn't want them to get flooded and die. So today, we planted, zucchini, cantaloupe, and cucumbers. Jacks was very helpful and interested, Wil was semi-interested, but he hated to have his gloves on, so I didn't let him help as much as Jacks. First we mixed our soil with "Mooneur" and then we dug our holes and planted the plants in their containers.
Are you planting a garden this year? This is my first year to have one and I am really hoping we will be successful! We planted our seeds in little plantable pots a couple of months ago and my boys have loved looking at them grow each day. Honestly, I have too! I just hope we get some fruits and vegetables! Do you have any tips for me or anyone else out there?

Aren't they cute?

We planted our first garden this year as well. It's so exciting! How far apart did you space your zucchini plants? I fear we didn't give ours enough space. We only planted them a foot apart. We plan to grow tomatoes, squash, zucchini, collards, spinach, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Check out my blog if you want to see my square foot garden pictures. Good luck!
